We are very excited to be performing at a new venue for us, Old Bus Tavern, located in the mission neighborhood of San Francisco.  This restaurant and brew house features American comfort food, craft beers and cocktails, as well as weekly musical performances.

Opera on the Spot will be performing opera arias and scenes as well as classical musical theater and show tunes for the second half of the performance!

Opera on the Spot presents a double bill of Lee Hoiby’s The Italian Lesson followed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona ( or The Servant turned Mistress).  Based on the famed character sketch by Ruth Draper, The Italian Lesson lyrically recounts the hectic day of a New York society matron in this one-woman opera.  The comedy continues in La Serva Padrona between an elderly bachelor and his servant. Come enjoy this rare production of two hilarious one-act Italian operas that reveal a lighter, if not more eccentric side of this beautiful art form.

This month, to honor our nation's Independence day, we are celebrating American composers through art song, arias and even some classical music theater.  Join us at Italian Restaurant, Caffe Delle Stelle, to appreciate the richness and diversity that is in American song!

During the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century, composers turned their attention to the expression of intense feelings in their music.  This self-described "Romantic" movement depicted personification of nature, intense passionate love, the sublime, the morbid the beautiful and the strange.  Join us at the Red Poppy Art House to listen to art songs and arias by the composers of this era.  Tickets are $20 at the door.  

As summer is upon us, we all feel a little restless in our day-to-day routine and want to get out and explore new and exciting places.  Join us on a musical journey through art songs and arias that will hopefully awaken your own sense of wanderlust!

Musical Nationalism is a musical movement that emerged in the late 19th century in response to political independence movements at that time.  Composers would often incorporate aspects of national identity into their music, using folk songs, rhythms and even current political events.  Join us, May 8 at 7:30 pm, to discover and increase your knowledge of this beautiful era of musical repertoire.
